James “Jim” Legg, 85, of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas passed away Monday, May 8, 2023, at his home in Horseshoe Bend surrounded by his family.

He was born in Hartselle, Alabama, on May 17, 1937, son of the late John Talmadge and Beauford (Hendrick) Legg. Jim grew up poor, having to work picking cotton to pay for his schoolbooks to complete high school. Upon completion of high school, Jim served our country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the construction of the Berlin Wall. During his working years, Jim worked for the United Parcel Service and retired after being employed for over 20 years. Jim was united in marriage to Susan “Sue” in Melbourne, Arkansas and they spent over 40 years together. After retirement and moving to Arkansas, Jim and Sue had a cattle farm in Violet Hill. Jim loved to grow vegetables in the garden and always raised enough vegetables to feed his family for years and sell what was left over. In his younger days, Jim was an excellent bowler, as he got older, Jim enjoyed reading and watching TV.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sue Legg; son, James Legg, Jr.; daughters, Paige Bates, Samantha Malik and husband David Gonzales and Jillian Romano and husband Luca; stepchildren, Penny Scott and Travis Scott; brother, Donald Legg; sister, Maedrue Driver and husband Charles; 9 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and one on the way; brother-in-law, Donald Locke; sister-in-law, Rosalee Legg and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Karl Legg and Benjamin Franklin Legg and sister, Geraldine Locke.  

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
