John Merchant Turner, 78, of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, passed away, Saturday, December 16, 2023, in Horseshoe Bend.

He was born in Helena, Arkansas, on June 30, 1945, son of Wallace Graydon Turner and Anna Marguerite Inebnit Turner. John graduated from Elaine High School in 1963. He graduated from Arkansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in August of 1971. He served in the United States Navy from December 20, 1968, until November 12, 1972, with an honorable discharge. John was united in marriage to Sheila Vickers on October 24, 2007, in Helena, Arkansas. During his working years he was a business owner. John enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and playing cards. He loved his family and his two dogs, Sammy and Sissy. John was of the Baptist faith.

John is survived by his wife, Sheila Turner of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas; son, Britt Turner (Jenny) of West Helena, Arkansas; daughter, Tara Brooke Steele of Chicago, Illinois; step son, Richard Rone of Fairhope, Alabama; step daughter, Allison Kale of Marvell, Arkansas; brothers, Wallace Turner, Jr. (Alene) of Walls, Mississippi and Mike Turner of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas; grandchildren, Kaleb Mitchell, Kavan Newman, Tristan Newman, Talon Newman, Chelsea Nelson (Griffin), John Graydon Turner, Brianna Rone, Savanna Rone, Katie Kale and John Kale and great grandchildren, Gunner Nelson and Gemma Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his son, Joshua Turner and parents.

Graveside services will be held at Maples Cemetery in Helena, Arkansas, on a later date.
