John David Younger, Jr., better known as Jack, age 91, formerly of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas; Punta Gorda, Florida; and Tinley Park, Illinois, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, at his daughter’s home in Fargo, North Dakota.
Jack was born on March 25, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late John David Younger and Ann (Drolenga) Younger. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.
On June 10, 1961, Jack married Lillian Holck in Chicago, Illinois. Together they shared more than 50 years of marriage before Lillian’s passing in 2014.
During his career, Jack worked in inventory control for ACME Steel in Riverdale, IL. He had a lifelong passion for weather and became a respected amateur meteorologist. He frequently provided weather statistics and forecasts to the media and served as a valuable weather resource for the Horseshoe Bend Airport, where pilots and airport officials often relied on his observations and forecasting expertise.
Jack was deeply involved in the Horseshoe Bend community. He was a longtime member of both the Kiwanis Club and Lions Club and served as a commissioner on the Horseshoe Bend Airport Commission. He attended Faith Presbyterian Church in Horseshoe Bend before relocating to be closer to his children.
Jack also enjoyed traveling, especially cruising with friends. He treasured the many adventures, friendships, and experiences he enjoyed throughout his life. He was also dedicated to wearing his Converse shoes, a trademark that reflected his unique personality and style.
Jack is survived by his son, Gary Younger (Kate) of La Grange, Illinois; his daughters, Kathi McIntire (Dan) of Fargo, North Dakota, Laura Cavanaugh (Dave) of Antioch, Illinois, and Beth Hartman (Mike) of St. Louis, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lillian Younger, and his brother, James Younger of La Porte, Indiana.
A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.at Evening Shadows Memorial Park in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the many friends, neighbors, and caregivers whose friendship and support enriched Jack’s life over the years.
